Chief of Staff at President's Office Ali Zahir has stated extremist ideology promotional activities are targeted at Maldives via social media.
The chief of staff made the remarks speaking to PSM News after inaugurating the Regional Technical Training Workshop on Effective Prevention and Intervention of the use of Internet and Social Media by Young Adults for Terrorist Recruitment in South Asia held by National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Noting Maldives is developing immensely in terms of technology, Ali Zahir said social media promotional activities on extremist ideology have also reached Maldives. In this regard, he added relevant authorities have also identified that several promotional activities are being conducted to instil extremist ideology in Maldives.
A total of 33 participants from 3 countries are taking part in the workshop, according to NCTC. The workshop will bring together practitioners of law enforcement and investigative agencies from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. The three-day workshop also aims strengthen investigative and analytical capabilities of participants.
