India has assured to initiate and cooperate with Maldives in its efforts to augment relations with foreign investors.

Addressing the Maldives Partnership Forum 2019, Ambassador of India to Maldives Sanjay Sudhir reiterated commitment of India to assist Maldives as part of India's Neighbourhood First Policy. Speaking on the relations between Maldives and India, Ambassador Sanjay Sudhir expressed Maldives is one country which is prioritised by India.

Highlighting the positive changes brought to the development plan of Maldives since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office last November, the ambassador stated India will initiate and work in line with Maldives to strengthen relations with investors. He further called right now is the time for foreign investors to assist Maldives.

While the Maldives Partnership Forum is attended by countries and organisations which have assisted Maldives in the past, several attendees expressed readiness to work with Maldives to achieve the island nation concept of the administration. They also highlighted the importance of clearing the debt of the country.

This is the first such forum held since 2009.
