International flights increase by 15% in Q1 2019

The number of international flights which landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) has increased by 15% in the first quarter of 2019.

The number of flight movements increased 15% due to the introduction of new international airlines to Maldives, according to statistics of Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL). In this regard, statistics showed flight movements of international aircraft increased by 900 this year, compared to the first quarter of last year.

Along with the developments brought to the tourism sector, several airlines are expressing interest to commence operations, while operating airlines have decided to increase scheduled flights.
