Comprising greenery for development is unacceptable: Environment Minister

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has said compromising the greenery of islands for development is unacceptable, appealing to work towards enhancing greenery of islands every day. The environment minister made the remarks while launching the Environment Carnival initiated by Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture and Ministry of Environment.

The Environment Carnival is an event held as part of the various activities planned to mark Environment Day. Speaking at the ceremony, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed stated one of the biggest issues faced to Maldives is the diminishing greenery in islands.

Meanwhile, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed expressed concerns over the increase of selling imported plants for business purposes, adding it results in mixing up of local plants.

Awareness sessions related to the environment will be held as part of the Environment Carnival.
