Ministry of Environment has provided a total of USD 42,092 for 10 schools to conduct environment protection projects. The funds from Students of Environment Programme were given for the best 10 proposals submitted by the schools.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister of Environment, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan said reef protection must be given a special importance in environment related programmes.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali stated such programmes held for students will enable the students to adapt to a sense of importance in overcoming challenges faced to the environment.
The Students of Environment is an initiative of Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Ministry of Education to promote environmental protection and aware the students on environment. The proposals submitted from 53 schools included projects to minimise waste, recycling and reef protection.
After evaluating, the environment ministry selected 10 proposals and provided each school with USD 4,209 to run the project. The schools and environment ministry signed agreements pledging to achieve the targets as stated in the proposals.
