Nasheed requests to omit a portion of his allowances

Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has requested to omit a portion of the allowances he is entitled to as a former president. Nasheed, who served as the president from 2008 to 2012, has officially requested at Ministry of Finance to omit some of the allowances he receive, according to Secretariat of Parliament.

Nasheed will only take USD 5,180 given as security allowance and fees to run an office while he decided to exclude financial allowance of USD 4,856 and accommodation allowance of USD 647. When appointed as Speaker of Parliament, Nasheed was entitled to a total of USD 15,873, including USD 3,440 as salary and USD 1,295 as other benefits as well as the allowances to former presidents.

Following the decision to omit some of the allowances, Nasheed will received a total of USD 10,369 from the state.
