Vice President travels with MDP high-level delegation to Sri Lanka

Vice President Faisal Ibrahim has joined the high-level delegation from the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), visiting Sri Lanka as a mark of the party’s solidarity with Sri Lanka.

The high-level delegation, which arrived in Colombo on Friday, consists of Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed, MDP cabinet members, members of MDP Parliamentary Group and members of the MDP Governing Council.

A statement issued by MDP on June 1 said Sri Lanka is the closest ally of Maldives and has always assisted the Maldivian people. The statement highlighted Sri Lanka has been a time long partner in education, health, trade and general development, and has especially been an invaluable friend to the party in its greatest time of need.

Furthermore, MDP noted Sri Lanka hosted and protected the founders of the party, including former President Mohamed Nasheed, when the party, and its leaders were under threat. MDP highlighted successive Governments of Sri Lanka have protected democracy and political pluralism for the Maldivian people at various stages of the Maldives’ recent history.
