Over 400 corruption cases submitted, 18 forwarded to ACC

President's Office has revealed over 400 cases related to corruption have been submitted to the online portal.

The zero tolerance to corruption campaign by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was launched last February. As part of the campaign, the administration has established an online portal to ease coming forward with corruption related cases.

Speaking at a press conference held at President's Office to disseminate information on the government's progress, Spokesperson at the President's Office, Chief Communication Strategist Ibrahim Hood said while over 400 cases have been submitted via the portal, 18 cases have been forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

President Solih established a Presidential Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery on his first day in office. The aim of the presidential commission is to recover the lost asset of the state from January 2012 to 17 November 2018 and to ensure that all responsible authorities to carryout legal duties in investigating the corruption and abuse of power within state institutions.

Although no details of the progress of the commission were given, answering a question posed by a journalist, Hood said the work of the commission is ongoing very slowly as it does not have legal powers to carry out its mandate. He expressed hope the parliament will pass the bill to grant legal powers to the commission in a near future.
