Development should not destroy environment: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated the changes brought for development should not serve as changes which destroy the environmental prolificacy. The vice president made the remarks addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate the Environment within History photo exhibition.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice President Naseem said Maldivians should further embrace environment friendly lifestyles. The vice president expressed such pictures of the past and present is a warning which must not be taken lightly. Noting environmental impacts can only be changed with sustainable practices, he appealed to minimise the negative impact of human practices on the environment.

Meanwhile, Director General of Ministry of Environment Mohamed Zahir said the pictures exhibited shows ancestors worked towards protecting the environment,

Moreover, addressing the function, Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon revealed the importance of historic documents to formulate environment related laws and regulations. She highlighted the efforts exerted by different administrations to promote environmental protection.

The photo exhibition shows changes brought to the Maldivian environment. The exhibition is open for public until June 13 at the National Art Gallery.
