Parliamentarian Ahmed Saleem has been appointed as the Parliamentary Group Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). He was appointed as the Parliamentary Group Leader of the main opposition party unanimously.
Although PPM held a majority in the last parliament, only 5 parliamentarians were elected for the new parliament which was sworn in on May 28.
The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), won 65 out of the 87 seats in the parliamentary elections held on April 7.
