Loan Policy reviewed, application window to be opened Tuesday

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has revealed higher education loan applications will be once again opened.

Speaking at a press held amid criticism over the few amount of students given loans, Higher Education Minister Ibrahim Hassan said the loan granting policy has been reviewed and will be opened for application once again. The higher education minister said the application window was moved up to provide the as many students with the loans although initially the date set for second application window was June 20.

Furthermore, the minister revealed efforts are underway to enable access to application of students online to ease the process for students who were not given loans in the first run adding online access to forms will ease updating the forms. The minister also added students will know what needs to be updated and changed via the online portal.

While 993 students applied for higher education loans, only 79 students were given the loans. Clarifying the issue, the minister said many applications submitted were in contrary to the policy. 242 loans will be issued under the higher education scheme, according to the higher education ministry.

While 79 students attained loans in the first run, a further 163 students will be selected form the application window opened on Tuesday.
