President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established Road Development Corporation Limited.

By a presidential decree, the company was formed as part of efforts to monitor the situation of roads of inhabited islands and to further develop the roads. The newly-established company is a 100 percent state-owned enterprise.

The company will form short term and long term action plans to connect islands via land transportation, construct bridges if necessary, to further strengthen the economic and infrastructure outlook of the country.

Maldives Road Development Corporation Limited (MRDC) was formed in 2010 during the presidency of Mohamed Nasheed with the aim of promoting the construction of rigid and flexible pavements for roads, with construction materials, reinforced earth and earthwork.

MRDC was founded as a manufacturing company with exclusive patented products aiming to revolutionise the construction industry in the country. However, the presidency of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom abolished MRDC in January and transferred all its mandate to Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.
