Opposition coalition will welcome Modi to Maldives

The opposition coalition has welcomed Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s official visit to Maldives from June 8-9.

In a statement, the opposition coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People’s National Congress (PNC) affirmed no action would take place to disrupt the visit and the peace and harmony of the country. The opposition noted the key figures, and their allies and parties have demonstrated in the wake of official visits of world leaders during the past administration, adding no such acts would take place during Modi’s visit to Maldives.

PPM and PNC urged the administration to conduct all affairs of the official visit by upholding the cultural and traditional values of Maldives and expressed dismay that a special sitting of the parliament has been called between Maqrib and Isha of tomorrow evening in which Modi will address the parliamentarians.
