Environment Ministry compiles National Action Plan against air pollution

Ministry of Environment has reveals plans to launch National Action Plan on Air Pollution on June 11.

Speaking on a local programme aired on PSM News, Director General of Environment Ministry Mohamed Zahir said air pollution is dangerous in Maldives and worrisome similar to other countries. The director general noted unlike other parts of the country, the air pollution level is concerning in Greater Male' region. He said the issue is of national concern and must be addressed accordingly.

Revealing it is hard to state the air we breathe are completely safe, Zahir stated due to engine vehicles and oil burning to produce energy have contaminated the air used to breathe. He mentioned the air is directly connected to the health of humans.

Moreover, the director general expressed the environment ministry have now finalised a national action plan referring to international surveys and researches which will be launched this month.
