NDMA closely monitoring situation of islands

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has stated it is closely monitoring and assessing the situation of the islands due to damages caused by heavy rain.

In a statement, NDMA said the risk assessment from some islands have now been received. Noting in efforts to minimise the damage of heavy rain water pumps and sacks have been provided to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service, NDMA appealed to take all precautionary measures.

In the statement, NDMA said some households incurred damages to household items while some islands were flooded. Moreover, NDMA appealed to take precautionary measures to minimize the effect of bad weather.

NDMA has also advised to take early preventive measures to minimise the damage from flooding and severe wind as the weather in most parts of the country is expected to worsen in the coming days. Travellers are also advised to take precautions as seas are predicted to be rough in all parts of the country.
