Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has completed the first part of the west apron of Velana International Airport (VIA). Part one of the new west apron constructed in Velana International Airport has been completed and ready operation and transition, according to MACL.
The 70,000 square metre of west apron consists of pavement including a taxi lane and parking space. 3 Code E Multi Aircraft or Apron Ramp System stands can accommodate 6 Code C aircrafts, along with 2 Code E stands and 1 Code C stand, MACL revealed.
The west apron is expected to increase the capacity of the airport and solve various difficulties faced due to overcrowding of the apron. The west apron project is conducted on 3 phases. While the first phase of the project has been completed, under the second phase parking space and domestic terminal area will be expanded.
The west apron expansion project commenced on January last year by China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG).
