The newly-elected Parliament of Maldives has taken the oath of office.
At a short ceremony held at Parliament chamber, 86 out of the 87 parliamentarians took oath in front of the Chief Justice of Maldives Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi. One parliamentarian reported he was out of the country, performing Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, according to the Parliament Secretariat, adding he will take oath once he arrives back in Maldives.
The main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party, won 65 seats in the parliamentary elections held on April 7.
