Police raids 2 drug hubs, arrests 37 people

Maldives Police Service has arrested 37 individuals in major drug bust.

The arrests were made from two houses after raids, according to Maldives Police Service. However, the police refuted rumours that household items were damaged during the raids. The police stated the houses were installed with electronic locks to restrict anybody from entering without permission.

Noting many people buy drugs from the two houses, the police said arrangements were made to consume the bought substances in the house. The police with regret expressed women and children are also participating in the drug business.

Detailing the arrests, Maldives Police Service said 11 Maldivian men aged between 19 years and 42 years, a Maldivian woman of 21 years and 2 boys aged 17 years were arrested from one house, while 24 Maldivian men aged between 19 years and 42 years were arrested from the other house.

All arrestees except the two juveniles have been remanded for three days while the juveniles are kept under house arrest, according police. Moreover, police said 81 packets deemed to be drugs were confiscated from the raids.
