Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated the investigation on Maldives Post Limited (MPL) for issuing over USD 13 million on separate occasions to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) will be completed by the end of the month.
An Auditor General's report cite, under an agreement made to sell dollars, MMPRC attained USD 13.31 million from MPL. The report stated MPL received only USD 7.79 million from the amount, adding MMPRC did not pay back the remaining amount. Meanwhile, the audit report accused the payments were made from the land lease acquisition costs received to MMPRC.
Furthermore, revealing major acts of corruption were identified in MMPRC purchasing dollars, the audit report called on the government to retrieve the amount back to MPL.
Speaking to PSM News, Vice President of ACC Muavviz Rasheed said there are doubts in two transactions of MPL, adding its staff have been questioned over the matter. Noting suggestions and advice of Prosecutor General is sought in concluding the case, Muavviz said it is difficult to declare negligence from either companies before a final report of the case. The final report can be prepared by the end of this month, he revealed.
The current CEO of MPL Shahid Ali Shahid reported MMPRC borrowed over USD 10.67 million in advance from MPL saying USD 5.1 million must still be retrieved back to MPL. He mentioned MPL is currently working towards recovering the remaining amount.
