ACC requests investors of Baresdhoo project to share information

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked investors of Baresdhoo project to share information. ACC revealed information is needed for an ongoing investigation.

ACC said it has found out acts of corruption have taken place in the Baresdhoo project initiated by Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC). Furthermore, ACC said investigation are underway concerning corruption and misuse of investor's finances. In this regard, ACC stated many individuals have deposited funds to Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and MITDC for the project.

ACC has therefore asked depositors to come forward and share information to assist in the investigation. The commission requires, name and address of the depositor or company information if a company, the amount paid as deposit, date of payment, medium of payment (cheque or cash) and any written documents of the transaction. ACC has requested to share the information of any deposits MMPRC or MITDC regarding the Baresdhoo project before June 13

Baresdhoo is a 72.5-hectare island in Laamu Atoll. Baresdhoo project was designed as a host to a diverse range of hospitality services that ranges from resorts to beach hotels. The project was initially contracted to MMPRC as a land sale agreement and they had taken over USD 2.2 million from 19 investors for the project.
