President of Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) Ahmed Shareef has revealed plans to resign from the post after the local council elections scheduled for early next year.
In an exclusive interview to PSM News, Ahmed Shareef said he believes he was able to execute his duties despite many challenges faced during his term in ECM. Shareef revealed he decided to resign as he cannot further participate in any political activities, as he is a member of an independent institution.
Prior to being appointed as the president of ECM, Ahmed Shareef who was a close ally of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom served as a parliamentarian and Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited.
During the interview, Shareef detailed the clashes with former President Yameen and the challenges he faced from the political arena.
