Utility companies given LED lights to distribute

Ministry of Environment has dispatched LED lights to utility companies to distribute to households.

195,000 from the 200,000 to be distributed have been handed over to three companies by Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, according to environment ministry. In this regard, the LED lights were handed over to Fenaka Corporation Limited, Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).

Previously, 5,000 LED lights were handed over to Fenaka Corporation for distribution. The LED lights were provided by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) of India. EESL is a joint venture under the Ministry of Power of India. Under the project, 2 LED lights will be given to each household.

Speaking at the ceremony to handover the lights to utility companies, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed advised to reduce wastage of electricity and to switch to energy efficiency methods. He shed light on the efforts of the government noting the formulation of compliance document needed for the building code of Maldives to encourage utilising energy efficiency productions in houses.

200,000 LED lights will save 96,000 units of energy per day, according to environment ministry.
