Tourist arrivals have increased significantly in April.
April saw the biggest improvement to the number of arrivals in a month's period within the past 13 years, according to statistics. When comparing to April last year, tourist arrivals in this year increased 36.3%. In April this year 163,114 tourists arrived to Maldives while 119,713 tourists arrived in the same period last year.
As per statistics, the top five regions were Europe, Asia and Pacific, USA, Middle East and Africa. Europe saw an increase of 18.6% with a total of 357,650 arrivals. Asia and Pacific increased by 19.5% with a total arrival count of 229,996. Moreover, USA showed a hike in arrivals with 33.2% increase, Middle East with 16.7% increase while Africa recorded the greatest growth with 39.7%.
Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed in a press conference revealed the significant increase to tourist arrivals show the tourism sector of Maldives is going on a right direction.
