Concerns have been heard, Heritage Minister says to artists

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon has assured to find a permanent solution for the concerns raised by artists. The heritage minister made the assurance in the wake of concerns raised by artists in front of National Art Gallery in Male' City.

The performance art piece titled homeless artists is staged in light of the side-lined artist's community in Maldives. The questions raised by artists is whether the current state of art gallery is a representation of the level of priority reserved for arts and crafts by the government.

The artists with dismay said the national art gallery which is supposed to have a display of paintings and art depicting the culture and tradition of Maldives is however rented out for events which are not relevant to any form of arts. The artists asked whether their concerns are heard by authorities.

Following the plea, Minister Yumna tweeted saying the concerns are heard and a permanent collection will be soon established at the art gallery.

The heritage ministry said there is still much work to be done, and under the administration, the ministry is committed to ensure the necessary changes to prioritise the National Art Gallery for art and artists.
