Maldivians in Sri Lanka now have to obtain residence visa

Government of Sri Lanka has announced all nationalities including Maldivians will have to obtain residence visa from their respective countries.

Effective of May 15, the Sri Lankan Government has changed the visa regulations. Following the changes, Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed the residence visa will now be attained from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Maldives.

The Communications Director at Foreign Ministry Miuvan Mohamed said from May 15 onwards, Maldivians seeking Sri Lankan residence visa must request at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Maldives prior to arrival adding the changes were brought due to the current security situation in Sri Lanka. He noted no changes were brought to the on arrival visa for Maldivians travelling as tourists to Sri Lanka, highlighting the changes would not affect the Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka.
