Supreme Court of Maldives has called to stop all activities conducted to demean the respect towards the judiciary.
In a press statement, the Supreme Court noted it is aware some people are repeatedly blackmailing judges and spreading comments to demean the trust between the public and judges. The Supreme Court reminded the courts of law are mandated to ensure justice, uphold rule of law and voice out to ensure the rights of citizens by executing their lawful jobs, while some citizens are demeaning the good name of the judges to achieve personal propaganda.
Further, the Supreme Court said the lawfully mandated jobs can only be executed with the cooperation of all citizens. In this regard, the Supreme Court has asked to immediately halt any such actions and to use freedom of expression within the margins set in the constitution.
