Sri Lanka’s Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court has released four out of the six Maldivians arrested from Sri Lanka late Friday.
The four individuals are released as the court do not see why they should be held and there are no charges to press against them, according to the Sri Lankan court. They were released to their families. The four of them were apprehended with air rifles from their apartment in Negombo. They were arrested as the documents of the purchase was not found.
Moreover, two more Maldivians were arrested during the raids on Friday. Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court extended the custody of these two Maldivians for another 13 days. The Sri Lankan court extended the custody of two International Relations students studying in Colombo, until May 10. They will be taken to the court on May 10, to decide on their detention.
The two students were arrested when a book with information of ISIS was found from their apartment. Sources close to the students reveal the book was bought from Sri Lanka for research as part of their studies.
Enhanced security operations are continued in Sri Lanka following the series of bombings which took place on April 21. The security personnel are granted more powers under the state of emergency declared across the country, which allows them to arrest any suspicious person without any questioning.
