National Institute of Education (NIE) has revealed plans to compile a master plan in association with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on how to incorporate Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the schools. As part of the efforts, a workshop has been commenced by NIE for ICT teachers in Maldives.
Addressing the National Workshop in ICT Competency Standards Development, Minister of State for Education Dr. Abdulla Rasheed Ahmed said during the workshop special modules will be compiled to teach ICT and identify the skills and criteria of an ICT teacher. In addition, the state minister noted ways to train ICT teachers will also be identified during the workshop, adding altogether four workshops will be held.
The workshop was inaugurated by Minister of Communication, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal. Minister Maleeh Jamaal said the changes seen in the world must be seen from the education sector, assuring to cooperate with authorities to further incorporate ICT in the education system. Noting although several facilities are established, it is useless if people are not aware on how to utilise the tools, the minister highlighted the importance of developing people who can adapt to the latest technological changes.
The workshop is a joint collaboration of education ministry, NIE and UNESCO. The workshop was attended by 35 participants from the education sector and other relevant authorities.
