Maldives have introduced an Energy Efficiency Badge focused for Girl Guide Association of Maldives and the Scout Association of Maldives. The badge was launched by Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
Speaking at the ceremony, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed stated the badge introduced is a strong foundation in encouraging children towards adapting to environment friendly practices. Noting 94% of the electricity used in Maldives is produced by burning diesel, the environment minister said the remaining 6 percent is produced by solar energy.
Speaking regarding the energy efficiency badge, the minister said the badge focuses on familiarising the upcoming youth generation on energy efficiency. He assured to provide full support to girl guides and scouts undergoing the badge completion process.
The energy efficiency badge was introduced jointly by environment ministry, girl guides association and scout association under an agreement made in 2016.
