Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court has extended the custody of two Maldivians arrested from Sri Lanka late Friday.
The Sri Lankan court extended the custody of two International Relations students studying in Colombo, until May 10. The two students were arrested when a book with information of ISIS was found from their apartment. Sources close to the students reveal the book was bought from Sri Lanka for research as part of their studies.
Meanwhile, during the security operations, another 4 Maldivians were arrested in Sri Lanka. The four them were apprehended with air rifles from their apartment in Negombo. The rifles were bought in Sri Lanka under a fake license. However, the court decided there are no grounds to press charges and released them from custody.
Enhanced security operations are continued in Sri Lanka following the series of bombings which took place on April 21. The security personnel are granted more powers under the state of emergency declared across the country, which allows them to arrest any suspicious person without any questioning.
