People’s National Congress (PNC) has appointed parliamentarian Abdul Raheem Abdulla as the party’s president.
The appointment made during its general meeting held in Billabong High International School. Abdul Raheem Abdulla was appointed to the position without any voting process as he was the only person who expressed interest for the post.
The PNC congress was arranged by coalition partner Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). The general meeting was attended by 137 members.
Meanwhile, 5 individuals competed for the 4 deputy leader posts, including former Maldivian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef, former Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, parliamentarian Ibrahim Shujau, parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik and former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Mohamed Nimal. The latter missed out on the 4 slots.
Previously, the party charter states the deputy leader of the party must be held by two members. However, the party amended the party charter at the general meeting and appointed four members as deputy leaders.
