Security heightened in Maldives, amid Sri Lanka blasts

Security forces gave heightened the security measures of Maldives following the bomb attacks on neighbouring Sri Lanka.

Speaking at a press conference held by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service (MPS), Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal said discussions are being held by all security authorities, adding immediate security measures needed has been taken. Shamal further said efforts are underway to identify whether there are any threats to Maldives following the bombings in Sri Lanka.

Noting Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Service and Ministry of Tourism are working collectively to identify any possible threats, Major General Shamal said efforts have been launched to heighten security in resorts, guest houses, hotels in Male' City, among other areas. He further noted measures are being imposed in Hanimaadhoo International Airport and Velana International Airport immediately.

Moreover, Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed stated no information have been received so far about any threats or any possibilities of threats to Maldives. Police Commissioner Hameed assured security forces of the Maldives are capable to identify any person who is capable of causing terrorism attacks in Maldives.

Highlighting fear of terrorism is shared by every country alike, security forces of Maldives appealed to refrain from sharing information of social media.
