Maldives strongly condemn the multiple bomb attacks in Colombo

The Government of Maldives has strongly condemned the multiple bomb attacks in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In a statement released, the Maldivian Government stated it is deeply shocked and concerned by reports of multiple explosions in the Sri Lankan capital. Further, the government strongly condemned the cowardly acts of terrorism and expressed assurance to stand shoulder to shoulder with the government and people of Sri Lanka during this difficult time of national crisis and grief. The government and people of Maldives also extended heartfelt condolences and prayers for all those affected by these heinous attacks.

Moreover, the Maldivian Government revealed they are closely monitoring the status of Maldivians in Colombo and asked to contact Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and the Embassy of Maldives in Colombo.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sent heartfelt sympathies to all affected by this cowardly act of terror, noting he is deeply saddened by the horrific events in Sri Lanka. President Solih affirmed solidarity with the government and people of Sri Lanka and assured the support of Maldives in the fight against terrorism.

Furthermore, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid also conveyed deepest condolences and prayers to the government and people of Sri Lanka, especially those affected. In the tweet, Minister Shahid expressed the message was received with deep shock unreservedly condemning the heinous terroristic attack claiming numerous lives and injuring many.

At least 185 people, including 35 foreigners, were killed and over 400 were reportedly injured after simultaneous blasts which hit three churches, three high-end hotels and a hotel new Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka.

The motive for the attacks remains unclear.
