Vector control campaign launched for rainy season

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has begun vector-borne diseases awareness campaign following rainy weather in Maldives.

The campaign was launched by holding an awareness programme for supervisors of construction sites in Male' City. As part of the campaign initiated until the end of April, awareness sessions for students and parents will be held, according to HPA.

Speaking regarding the campaign, Tropical Programme Manager at HPA Sana Saleem said information, with assistance of World Health Organisation (WHO), have been provided to site supervisors working at construction sites in Male' City. She revealed the construction sites in Male' Villimale' and Hulhumale' will be visited and assessed, after the information session which was attended by 40 participants.

The campaign was launched in association with WHO, HPA and Male' City Council. The campaign will deliver information on individual responsibilities to control dengue outbreak and on preventive measures, HPA added.

Dengue is endemic in the Maldives, with prevention and control of the illness solely dependent on effective mosquito control measures.
