Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure states Newport View Restaurant is being operated illegally and orders to vacate the premises immediately.
An agreement was signed between Newport View Restaurant's parent company Strada Private Limited and Ministry of Hosing and Infrastructure on September 22, 2016 regarding the development of a bridge viewing platform and a food outlet on the site. Initially the term was set for three years. However, the agreement was amendment in 2017 to extent it to 8 years.
Strada has been defaulting on land rent, as per the agreement, since December 2018 and thereby, the agreement was terminated on March 7, 2019, according to Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure. However, Strada has been defiantly continuing operations on the site.
The ministry has now revealed procedures are underway to address the company's refusal to vacate the premises.
