Japan donate equipment to Maldives Police Service

The Government of Japan has donated equipment worth over USD 2 million to Maldives Police Service.

The document that signifies the donation was handed over at special function held at the Republic Square in Male' City. Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid received the donation on behalf of the Government of Maldives, while the donation was handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Maldives Keiko Yanai. Minister Shahid said the donation represents the strong bilateral ties that exist between Maldives and Japan.

At the function, the Japanese ambassador expressed hope the donation would boost efforts to ensure public safety and assist the country in its fight against terrorism. These assets would bolster operational readiness in efforts towards public safety and protection, according to Maldives Police Service.

The function was attended by the Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdulla and the Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed.
