Mahloof and Akram cleared of charges; resume responsibilities

Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof has resumed responsibilities, after being suspended from duties in the wake of corruption allegations raised against him.

Taking to twitter to announce his return, Minister Mahloof thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for restoring faith in him and entrusting him with the ministerial responsibilities, after a police probe into the allegations proved his innocence. He also assured his integrity and commitment to carrying out the responsibilities.

Just few days into the administration's announcement of its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, allegations of corruption were raised against the Minister Mahloof and Minister of State for National Planning and Infrastructure Akram Kamaaluddheen. Following these allegations, both were alleviated of their responsibilities on February 14.

Both were implicated as beneficiaries of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal. Mahloof's bank account showed deposits to the tune of USD 33,000 while Kamaaluddheen's bank account showed deposits to the tune of USD 30,000.

Akram Kamaaluddheen has also been cleared of the charges and has resumed his responsibilities.
