Autism Association begins special programmes targeting children and care givers

Maldives Autism Association has officially implemented the programmes inaugurated on World Autism Day. To celebrate World Autism Day, Autism Association inaugurated three programmes.

The programmes target children on the autism spectrum, Special Educational Needs (SEN) teachers and parents of children on the autism spectrum. The three programmes were officially inaugurated on April 2, by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and the founder of the Autism Association, Ilham Hussain. 100 children and parents will be included in the programme, according to the association.

Speaking to PSM News, CEO of Autism Association, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu revealed the workshop being held as part of the programmes aim to inform and sensitize the SEN teachers on what needs to be prioritised when teaching students on the autism spectrum. He further added, the workshop will be facilitated by experts in the field, noting the workshop will provide a platform for SEN teachers to network and identify mutual challenges.

Meanwhile, a special screening programme was initiated to advocate early detection. Under the screening programme, 100 children will be screened.
