Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has revealed the number of void votes in the parliamentary elections amount to 4,800. The amount is the highest ever recorded in a parliamentary election in Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said the void votes amount to 4,800 which is 2.2 percent of the total votes cast. In 2014, 2-thousand-120 votes were invalid which amounts to 1.1 percent of the total votes cast. He said some ballot boxes were recounted due to some complaints received, adding it resulted in identifying more invalid votes.
However, Shareef revealed no complaints were received which will further alter the results of the elections. He assured there will be no invalid votes counted as valid votes.
