Government has begun work on the procurement of necessary equipment to strengthen the border control system of Maldives.
Currently, the authorities utilise the personal identification secure comparison and evaluation system (PISCES), to seek information about people who cross the border. The system is developed by a US Company, Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corporation.
The Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology has noted that the system, which came into operation in Maldives in 2013, has not been properly maintained. Thereby, the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology is working with the US government to upgrade the system.
Minister of State of Communication, Science and Technology Ali Solih told PSM News 70 systems that are required to upgrade the PISCES system being used in Maldivian sea ports and airports have now arrived in Maldives, along with a technical team. He said work on installing the new systems at Maldivian sea ports and airports will begin swiftly.
The project is a joint effort by the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Immigration and the US government.
