Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has stated the tourism sector had boomed in the first quarter of the year.
Speaking to media at a press conference, Minister Ali Waheed said the tourism sector achieved remarkably after the new government took office. In this regard, the minister noted tourists who visited Maldives significantly increased within the first quarter of the year.
In January 151,552 tourists arrived to Maldives which is an increment of 6.5% compared to January last year, according to statistics. The tourist arrivals in February this year increased 16.8% compared to the same period of last year. Meanwhile, the most number of tourists arrived in Maldives in March increased by 22% compared to March 2018.
Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said the new aim is to bring 1.5 million tourists within the year. As per statistics, the tourist arrivals amounted to 482,978 by the end of the first quarter of the year. This is an increase of 15% compared to last year.
