The Commonwealth has called the new parliament to work towards women empowerment and to eliminate challenges faced by women in attaining higher posts in Maldives.
Speaking to media after observing the parliamentary elections held on April 6, Head of Delegation Bruce Golding lauded the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) for concluding a successful election. Golding highlighted almost all polling stations began voting at the scheduled time and it shows how well ECM has planned the elections. He noted the amount of female officials shows that women participation is booming, as well as the success of efforts to eliminate gender differences.
While The Commonwealth lauded the procedures of the parliamentary elections, Transparency Maldives, the Japanese observers’ mission in Maldives and Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HECM) declared the elections free, fair and credible.
