Nasheed interested in MDP PG Leader Post, not Parliament Speaker

President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has stated he has no desire to become parliament speaker, at the same time expressing interest to lead the parliamentary group of the main ruling party. The former president who won a seat in the parliament made the remarks in an exclusive interview with PSM News.

During the interview, former President Mohamed Nasheed said every parliamentarian would want to fulfil the needs of the residents of the constituency. Noting rules and regulations must be set to achieve the goals, Nasheed stated he can lead the parliamentary group to accomplish the pledges. Nasheed assured no parliamentarian will be left behind, adding time will be given to parliamentarians to serve the constituency.

Moreover, Nasheed expressed rather than working to develop separate constituencies, development will be brought together to the whole country. With confidence, the former president said MDP will know how to run a parliament with a super majority.

Furthermore, Nasheed reiterated he does not wish to attain the post of parliament speaker, since he wanted a seat at parliament to make a difference by being involved. In this regard, he noted the real work is done by parliamentarians and speaker is only responsible to manage the parliament.
