Financial statement on campaign expenditure to be submitted before May 5

Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has stated the financial statement on campaign spending must be submitted before May 5 by all candidates despite win or lose.

In a tweet posted by member of ECM Ismail Habeeb, he stated a financial statement must be disclosed on camping expenditure although the individual won or lost in the election, 30 days since the election.

According to Elections General Act, a report relating to the financial matters of the election of the candidate must be prepared and submitted within 30 days from the election, including;

1. Expenses incurred by the Candidate in relation to the election,
2. Details, separately, of the expenses incurred during the electoral campaign,
3. Details of the manner in which contributions were procured for election expenses,
4. Details of persons and amounts contributed by them for election expenses
5. And a bank account statement which shows all the transactions carried out from the elections account opened.

The parliamentary election was contested by 386 candidates.
