Japan expect democracy will be further consolidated in Maldives following elections

The Government of Japan has expressed that it expect through the parliamentary elections held in Maldives on April 6, democracy will be further consolidated in the country.

In a statement released by Press Secretary Takeshi Osuga, Japan said it intends to cooperate with the Maldives for its sustainable development and stability.

Japan dispatched an election observer mission composed of 8 members led by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Norikazu Suzuki, and the mission visited polling stations. The Japanese election observer mission found the voting in the areas where it covered was generally held in a free, fair, transparent and peaceful manner.
