President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed it is rather challenging when the parliament withholds the bills to grant legal powers to presidential commissions. The president made the remarks at a gathering held by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to conclude their campaign activities for tomorrow's parliamentary elections.
During the gathering, President Solih stated so far 23 bills have been submitted to the parliament, noting with regret, only 8 bills were passed since he assumed office last November. He expressed it is not the amount he hoped for when the ruling coalition holds a majority in the parliament.
President Solih reiterated his main pledge during the campaign for presidency was serving justice for those neglected, recover lost state funds and to publish information on murders and enforced disappearances. In this regard, the president noted so far the investigations on such cases have been influenced by politicians, adding therefore, the trust of the public on investigative authorities have been demeaned. He underlined it is bestowed upon him by the constitution to reform the judicial system and ensure a good governance system.
Moreover, shedding light on the initiation to publish weekly financial reviews of the country, President Solih assured the initiation ensures the administration will standby serving the people for a better future and be transparent in its efforts. He also described the initiation as an assurance against corruption.
