President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed plans to formulate a master plan to develop airports across Maldives. The president made the remarks at a campaign event organised by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Inguraidhoo in Raa Atoll.
Addressing the ceremony, President Solih stated the administration prioritises easing travel and enhancing a developed transportation system within Maldives via sea and air. The president expressed one main instrument of development is easy carriage of food supplies from one place to another. Noting it is crucial an airport is developed in the administrative constituency of Inguraidhoo, he revealed plans to develop an airport in the area during his presidential term.
Meanwhile, the airport which was planned to be developed in Fainu in Raa Atoll by former administration was stopped. Following the publication of a report from Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) on Fainu, many among the public criticised the project as it damages the delicate and the unique environment of the island.
