Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has revealed all preparations are set for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference revealing information about the latest preparations for the elections, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said officials and ballot papers have been sent to all polling stations. He revealed all administrative works have now been completed.
Noting from past experiences and the recently held presidential election several arrangements were changed, Shareef stated arrangements have been made to minimise queues in polling stations. Speaking in this regard, Shareef noted on average 500-600 voters will cast votes for a single ballot box, adding if more voters are registered, two administrative tables will be placed.
Moreover, the head of the electoral body said in contrast to other elections, only the total result of the administrative constituencies will be announced rather than individual boxes. He added 8,631 result sheets will be announced.
Furthermore, Shareef expressed hope to begin and conclude voting during the scheduled period. Noting interim results will be announced two days after the voting, Shareef said efforts will be exerted to publish final results before April 12. Continuing on, he assured all legal procedures were followed during the preparations for the elections. He expressed hope all procedures of the voting will be conducted smoothly.
