The Government of Maldives has commenced efforts on connecting the healthcare system of Maldives through a single network.
At the special function held at the northern most point of Maldives, Thuraakunu in Haa Alifu Atoll, to launch the effort, Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen networked the healthcare system of the 14 inhabited islands in the atoll.
All healthcare data from Haa Alifu Atoll would be consolidated in a single network, according to the health ministry. This would enable day-to-day operational and administrative work of the hospital to be managed and updated through the Government E-letter Management System (GEMS). This would also enable health records of all patients to be stored and accessed through the Vinavi portal of Aasandha, the national healthcare insurance scheme.
Connecting the healthcare system of Maldives through a single network is one of the targets the administration has set for its first 100-days.
