Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has stated Maldivians must make immediate lifestyle changes, as a huge percentage of the population have the possibility of being diagnosed with diabetes. The health minister made the remarks at the launching ceremony of National Diabetes Programme in Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll.
During the ceremony, Health Minister Ameen said the roots of a healthy lifestyle is within a society, adding adapting to healthy lifestyles are crucial to prevent diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
Moreover, speaking at the ceremony on behalf of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dr. Ali Latheef noted the efforts to establish a one-stop Diabetes Centre at Dharumavantha Hospital, which will centrally connect all health facilities to provide diagnosis and treatment of diabetes are underway.
Meanwhile, the minister handed over testing machines to Thulusdhoo Health Centre, as part of the national programme.
Furthermore, the health ministry shared the findings of the island study conducted to identify the situation of diabetes in Maldives.
